a powerful military leader. The confrontation sparks off Tetsuo's supernatural power leading to bloody death, a coup attempt
and the final battle in Tokyo Olympiad where Akira's secrets were buried 30 years ago.
VOLTRON'S OPINION:
I didn't like the idea of having the main hero a murdering motorcycle punk. But the basic plot was good and I can see why
people and anime fans like this movie.
I GIVE IT...8 STARS

ZEDD'S OPINION:
Though this movie does have many good points. It also has as many bad points. The street punk thing really got to me. Plus
they killed off all of the two likeable characters. Most anime has a sense of humor. After all comedy relief is important
to drama. But Akira isn't one of them, it's dark with no sense of humor. I really think true anime fans blow too much hype
over Akira.
I GIVE IT...5 StARS

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):
+CONCEPT (A post nuclear world is always a good concept)
+MONSTERS (There are some cool monsters)
+FIRST ANIME WITH NUDITY (Marks the first anime for adults)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- OUR HERO (OUr hero is a low life street punk)
- NO HUMOR (Comedy refief is needed in any drama)
- CHATACTERS (There were only two likeable characters in this whole thing and they get bumped off)
And Finally:
- NO HUMAN RIGHTS (Basic human rights went up in the nuclear fall out I see)
